Saltwood

Project Type: Residential
Project Area: Garden Route
Project Size: 270 m2

Positioned on a steep wooded slope, this residence is shaped by terrain, filtered light, and framed glimpses through the canopy. Entry is at the upper level, where the main living areas and principal bedroom are placed to engage the treeline and maximize daylight. Guest rooms are located below, making efficient use of the gradient for thermal performance and compact planning.

The house responds to changing conditions through spatial flexibility rather than external structures. Expansive stacking doors allow the living areas to open fully, extending the interior into the landscape when conditions permit. When required, the façade closes cleanly, keeping the indoor spaces active and central to daily life.

Generous glazing captures the forest surroundings, while deep canopies provide shade and seasonal protection. A crisp palette of white surfaces and timber detailing stands out against the wooded backdrop, giving the building a clear architectural presence. The design is driven by environmental logic and spatial intent
